|ELFA volunteers gain the opportunity to contribute positively towards their own communities, improving their sense of worth and identity, as well as the health of their family. The current volunteer program supports individuals who wish to return to work, those who are seeking more social interaction, and those who would like to broaden their skills set in general. ELFA provide role relevant training as well as external training opportunities for those who wish to improve their skills set.
Volunteers are recruited from the communities in which ELFA operates, and so reflect the cultural diversity of Hackney. The volunteers are core to ELFA's engagement with the communities they wish to effect, and so are key to the objectives and aims of ELFA as an organisation.
|Our stalls operate mainly out of doors, all year round, and are staffed by volunteers from local settings. Holding a produce stall on estates, especially when staffed by resident volunteers, makes the environment more human and welcoming to all members of the community. Volunteers encourage customers to buy seasonally, point out particularly good value items, and engage about cooking and growing.|
